The word “resilience” has gotten lots of use during the past few years as extreme weather, fires, earthquakes, and even pandemics have battered our supply chains and communities. As humans inhabiting this fragile planet, we want a sense of normalcy and a feeling that our communities, buildings, and infrastructure will be able to survive and thrive through these often-devastating events. Whether it’s keeping your project in budget or keeping your family safe, engineers, architects, building owners and community leaders want to be prepared for the next catastrophe. This webinar by cold-formed steel (CFS) industry veteran and green building champion Don Allen will cover some of the ways we can make our designs and communities more resilient and review lessons learned from the ongoing pandemic. In particular, he will discuss how the supply of framing materials has been impacted, and how we as designers and builders can make our projects and businesses better prepared for the next “unprecedented” event. This will include some history, some design methodology, and even some philosophy on our responsibilities as designers and builders. Don will cover some of the available literature and resources, and even suggest activities to supplement your preparedness planning.
